Cousin Camille Smith and Maude (Jeannie Sanders-Ray) have made invaluable contributions as have Aunt Betty and Aunt Evelyn. Also if it were not for Uncle Arch telling me the (short version) of the Sanders pioneering history I may never have been able to trace those roots accurately. I will be adding all of the Cherokee Indian history to the family tree in the coming weeks and months. Information on most Cherokee Indians is contained in the "Dawes Rolls". This information is all handwritten by registration numbers and on family cards. It is not at all easy to research. I have traced the Sanders - Cowin side of our family tree back to the Indian Territory which is now part of North Carolina, all of Tennesse & Kentucky, and the southern most tip of Indiana. A good resource to understand our Cherokee heritage is "The Trail of Tears". Our Cherokee ancestors were taken on this march into Oklahoma. We are very lucky that some of them survied or many of the branches on this tree would not be here today. Maude and I will be tracking some of that documentation in the early spring and later summer 2006. I would like to have any stories, bio's or memories that you have concerning our family. Write them up and e-mail them to me and I will add them to our tree. This is the best way to preserve our families history for future generations. So much has already been lost.
